University College Hospital London
University College Hospital (UCH) is a teaching hospital in London, part of the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and associated with University College London. It was founded in 1834, eight years after UCL (then known as the London University), as the 'North London Hospital', in order to provide clinical training for the "medical classes" of the University.
The hospital boasts approximately 2000 rooms with 12 operating theatres and 1,200 wash basins. There is a young persons floor which offers a home from home for teenagers. One third of all beds are in single rooms offering the ultimate patient privacy. The hospital rises sixteen floors above ground with two below and offers spectacular views across London.
The UCH is proud to house the largest single critical care unit anywhere in the NHS. VGI Security Solutions were assigned to provide a team of project and commissioning engineers to install UCH’s local area networked CCTV system of over 200 fully functional and static cameras.
The access control system installed by VGI Security Solutions manages the 300 exit points on site. The CCTV system required 200 fully functional and static cameras. In addition, an intruder alarm system with over 300 detection zones was also included in the project scope.
